It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of local resident and Burradon & Camperdown Forum(“The Forum”) trustee, Major Bill Campbell.

Bill had a distinguished career in the British army and served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Following his retirement, he was actively involved with the Royal British Legion and was an integral member of the team which organised the annual remembrance parades in North Tyneside. Bill was the recipient of the Royal British Legion’s Gold Badge for 20 years service.

Bill was a tremendous support to the Forum and helped to organise the ceremonies for the rededication of the restored Burradon War Memorial in 2004 and in 2005 the plaque which detailed the names of the 26 men from the village who perished in the Great War. The memory of the members of the British Legion on parade with their standards at the Nurses Cottage and at Burradon Primary School and the veterans marching through the village with their standards will live in the memory of the residents of the local community.

Bill will be a huge loss to the Forum and the other voluntary and charitable organisations in the region, Our thoughts are with Anna and the family and the funeral service will be held at the West Road Crematorium at 1.30pm on 6 April 2018.
